Noemi Sanin won Sunday’s Conservative Party primary and will be the party’s presidential candidate in the May 30 election. Opponent Andres Felipe Arias congratulated the former ambassador to the UK.
Sanin beat former agriculture minister Andres Felipe Arias with 30 thousand votes.
The counting of the votes had been surrounded by controversy and led to allegations of fraud by both candidates.
The Conservative Party won 20 Senate seats in the congressional elections held on the same day as the primary and is considered one of the most important candidates to take part in the governing coalition of the next government.
