The president of Colombia’s Conservative Party, Fernando Araujo, announced Wednesday that the party’s presidential candidate Noemi Sanin will be receiving the full allowance offered by the government to fund her campaign.
Araujo told RCN news that Sanin would be accepting the full government grant of almost $2.5 million, but that in doing so she would be disqualified by law from forming a political alliance with any other candidates before the first round of the national elections.
Having accepting the money, Sanin will also be prohibited from withdrawing as presidential candidate.
According to state laws, in the event that the Conservative candidate does not receive more than 4% of the votes in the first round of Colombia’s presidential election, she will have to return the full sum of money to the state.
