Restrepo’s migration record allowed as evidence in false demobilization case

A judge allows prosecutors to use migration records in the case against Colombia’s fugitive former Peace Commissioner who is accused of faking the demobilization of a non-existent FARC front.

The prosecution in the case presented the travel records of the ex-commissioner Luis Carlos Restrepo as well as those of army Colonels Hugo Hernan Castellanos Jimenez and Jaime Joaquin Ariza Giron at a court hearing on February

A Colombian judge approved the new evidence saying that it conformed to the Constitution and the law and did not violate the rights of the accused.

Restrepo is charged over his alleged role in the demobilization of “Caica Gaitana,” a non-existent FARC front made up of civilians that demobilized shortly before the 2006 elections. The former peace commissioner, who also has been accused of inflating demobilization figures of right-wing paramilitary groups, fled the country before charges were brought. Colombia asked Interpol to issue an international arrest warrant for Restrepo.
