Former Peace Commissioner Luis Carlos Restrepo Tuesday accepted the invitation of coalition party Partido de la U to become its president.
Restrepo, who left his post as High Commissioner of Peace last week, said he would work on the re-election of his former boss, President Álvaro Uribe and making the political party a real party of unity.
“I am going to actively work on the strengthening of the party, but it will be the assembly that decides about the directive organisms,” Restrepo told newspaper El Espectador.
“I want to see La U strengthened for the 2010 Congress and presidential elections,” he added.
Restrepo said he would like the party to have an alternative candidate if Uribe isn’t allowed to run for the 2010 Presidency.
