Restrepo handed in resignation: El Espectador

Coalition party Partido de la U is considering the resignation of the
party’s president, Luis Carlos Restrepo, newspaper El Espectador
reported Monday.

Several Congressmen feel that Restrepo has not been able to unite the party in the current coalition crisis and therefore called on the president to leave De La U, the newspaper reported.

Senator Armando Benedetti even requested former Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos to
return to Colombia. Benedetti thinks that Santos is the only one able saving the coalition from falling apart.

Apparently, Restrepo handed in his resignation after a meeting with Interior Minister Fabio Valencia Cossio. Partido de La U had asked Valencia before to step down.

El Espectador expects the party’s direction to determine Monday or Tuesday what is going to happen with Restrepo.
