Remains of Colombian serial killer’s victims to be handed over to families

The remains of two victims who suffered at the hands of Colombia’s most notorious serial killer, Luis Alfredo Garavito, known as “The Beast,” will be handed over to their families.

The two victims, aged 11 and 12 at the time of their deaths, were killed in 1996 and 1998, respectively. Both minors were abducted and shot to death by Garavito in the centrally located Colombian city of Pereira.

The prosecution’s technical investigation unit said the bodies of the two minors would be handed over to their families “in the coming days.”

Garavito was arrested in 2001 and later sentenced to 33 years in prison for the rape and murder of 111 children between the years of 1992 and 1999, although estimates of his total number of victims have reached as high as 300. He is considered by some to be the world’s most prolific serial killer.
