Religious fanatic beheads neighbor

by Katharina Wecker June 19, 2009

Colombia news - machete

A 33-year-old religious fanatic from Nariño, apparently with mental
problems, beheaded his neighbor Thursday and walked through the village
with the head of the victim. This Friday, a judge in Tumaco will decide whether to detain the murderer for safety reasons while he is awaiting his trial.

People of the village Aguas Claras used to call the mentally handicapped “El Amen” for his fervent religious manifestations, Canal RCN reported Friday.

Armed with a machete the 33-year-old man came to the house of his neighbor and beheaded her. He walked through the streets of Aguas Claras, her head in one hand and a bible in the other one, shouting things like “the Bible will save me”.

The inhabitants of the village captured the murderer and tried to lynch him but the police intervened and arrested the man.

Family and friends of the victim burried the mother of two children and ended the funeral and her life, as macabre as it might seem, saying “Amen”.
