Red Cross asks more local help for rainy season emergencies

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) wants local
emergency committees to be installed to face the emergencies following
the rainy season.

According to the aid organization, 26 people died the
past month.

Carlos Ivan Marquez, director of the National Aid branch of the ICRC, the landslides and floods caused by heavy rains have killed 26 people, affected 10,800 families in almost a hundred municipalities throughout the country and have damaged almost 10,000 houses.

Extreme rainfall in Bogotá completely disrupted public life in the capital all day Thursday because of floods and landslides.

The rains are expected to continue and even increase throughout April and May.
