Red alert declared in southwest Colombia over water shortages

Colombian authorities declared a red alert for 15 municipalities in the southwestern department of Huila due to droughts and the resulting high risk of forest fires.

Water shortages, both for human consumption and crop irrigation, led emergency management officials to declare a red alert, meaning authorities will closely monitor the situation and will determine a course of action should the situation worsen.

According to authorities the village of Aipa has been hit hardest by the drought, where the livestock sector has been seriously affected by crop damage.
