The cane cutters that have been on strike in the south of Colombia for
two months are willing to end their strike, Social Welfare Minister
Diego Palacio said Saturday. According to the minister, he was able to
broker a deal with the cutters and will talk to plantation owners soon.
“I hope this weekend we can talk to two more plantations and quickly formalize agreements that allow the return of normalcy in the sugar sector,” the Minister told Caracol Radio.
The Minister said the talks between cutters and plantations are held separately because of the specific disagreements per plantation.
