“Blessed” ex-Colombian soccer player arrested

by Michael Kay September 20, 2008

Former soccer player Luis Alfonso “Bendito” Fajardo Posada was arrested Saturday on charges of laundering stocks in association with narcotraffickers.

Prosecutors have been pursuing an investigation against the former Colombian national team player for tax evasion and illicit enrichment, reported Caracol Radio.

“Bendito Fajardo,” or “Blessed Fajardo”, was captured by agents of the Medellín prosecutor’s office, after a Pereira prosecutor ordered his detention. He will be transferred shortly to the Risaralda department capital.

The player is remembered for his role in the historic 1-1 tie won by the Colombian national team against Germany in 1990 as well as his participation on the Atlético Nacional team which won the Copa Libertadores de América in 1989.
