Prosecutor General to personally lead wiretap investigation

Colombia’s Prosecutor General Mario Iguaran will personally take charge
of the investigations into alleged illegal wiretapping by the country’s
secret service DAS, Caracol Radio reported Tuesday.

According to the radio station, Iguaran is to meet with magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice who are currently evaluating the evidence handed to them by Prosecution investigators.

Iguaran will also be in charge of the investigations against former DAS directors Maria del Pilar Hurtado and Jorge Noguera, the radiostation said.

The DAS is under investigation for allegedly intercepting phonecalls of opposition politicians, Supreme Court judges and critical journalists.
