Colombia’s military tribunal sent over 180 files to the Prosecutor
General’s office of soldiers suspected of having murdered civilians to
report them as guerrillas killed in combat, Caracol Radio reported
Monday.
According to the radio station, official sources say the military tribunal has thoroughly revised suspected cases and handed them over to the human rights unit of the Prosecutor General’s office.
The Prosecution in turn re-opened some cases of alleged extrajudicial killings.
Colombia has come under scrutiny after it suspended 27 members of the armed forces for the so called ‘false positives’. Human rights groups have accused the armed forces for years of murdering civilians to make the army look more efficient.
