Prosecution narrows down student investigation after clash with Attorney General

Colombia’s Prosecution narrowed down its investigation into rebel
infiltration in universities to 55 students after the Attorney General
objected the investigation of the complete administrations of public
universities.

Initially the Prosecution wanted to look into the complete student administration of a number of public universities because of alleged infiltration of illegal armed groups in the student population.

The Attorney general considered this illegal and ordered the Prosecution only to look into the files of actual subjects and not of random students.

According to the prosecutor in charge, Guillermo Mendoza Diago, “We don’t want to persecute public university students” and specified they were investigating 55 students whose name appeared on found FARC computers.
