Prosecution closes two more FARC-politics cases

Colombia’s Prosecutor General dropped the charges against journalist
Carlos Lozano and former presidential candidate Alvaro Leyva. The two
were accused of ‘FARC-politics’, conducting politics in favor of the
country’s largest guerrilla group.

According to Caracol Radio, sources from within the Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed there was no evidence the two suspects could be linked to the guerrilla organization.

The two were mentioned in the e-mails by slain FARC commander Raul Reyes, but the content of the e-mails had everything to do with their government-approved attempts to mediate with the rebels.

Last week, the Supreme Court decided to stop the investigations against opposition senator Gloria Inez Ramirez, also because of a lack of evidence.

The most prominent FARC-politics case, that against opposition Senator and leader of social activist group Colombians for Peace, Piedad Cordoba, is still open.

The Colombian government always insisted the politicians and journalists were aides of the FARC.
