Prolific Colombian singer-songwriter Pablo Florez dies

Prolific Colombian singer-songwriter Pablo Florez has died at the age of 85.

Florez wrote over 500 songs, most of them “porros,” a musical style and dance from the Caribbean region of Colombian and a sub-genre of “cumbia.” His most famous song is “Los Sabores del Porro.” He also composed “boleros.”

Florez, also known as Pablito, passed away Thursday in a clinic in Monteria, the capital of the northwestern department of Cordoba. Florez had been admitted to hospital a week earlier suffering from kidney failure and a lung infection.

Relatives say his health worsened following the death of his wife, Marcelina Causil, two months ago.
