Preview: Medellin and América aim to clinch final berth

América de Cali and Independiente Medellín could secure a spot in the
final of the Colombian Copa Mustang II. Surely, Deportivo Pereira and
Deportes Tolima will do anything in their power to get in the way.

Action begins on Wednesdy with two matches at the same time. América face local rivals Deportivo Cali in a match that could see the reds through to the next round.

Whether they do though, also depends on the result at Junior Barranquilla versus Deportivo Pereira. If América happen to lose to Cali and Pereira manage a win over Junior, René Higuita’s side would surprisingly move into first place with just one match day to go.

Only two teams still have a chance of advancing from Group A. Independiente have the best possibilities but Deportes Tolima should be reckoned with as well.

Independiente host Medellín arch rivals Atlético Nacional, who themselves are already out of contention in this group and might not be as motivated as their opponents.

Tolima travel to Bogotá to face La Equidad, and the same situation applied there as the team that finished second in last year’s Copa Mustang II, are now stuck at the bottom of the group and have no chance of making the final.

If DIM lose to Nacional and Tolima beat La Equidad, the two teams would be level on points with a direct encounter waiting on match day six.
