Preview: match day 2 in Copa Mustang II semi’s

by Jonathan Roorda November 26, 2008

Match day 2 of the semi final stage in the Colombian Copa Mustang II
kicks off with Group B action on Wednesday, followed by Group A on
Thursday.

Group B leaders América de Cali visit local rivals Deportivo Cali in an attempt to extend their advantage, and recent history is surely in América’s favor.

The red side easily beat Deportivo 4-1 in their most recent meeting, just two months ago.

Junior Barranquilla won their opening match against Deportivo Cali and look to add another three points at Deportivo Pereira on Wednesday.

Points have been pretty much evenly divided between these two teams in recent games, but Pereira ended up winning 2-1 in their last encounter with Junior two months ago.

Thursday sees another big classic with Atlético Nacional hosting Independiente Medellín for what should be an entertaining clash.

Nacional drew their opening game with La Equidad while DIM beat Deportes Tolima to take the lead.

In the last six encounters, these two sides made it a habit to win one, lose the next. Considering Medellin’s 1-2 win two months ago, it should be Nacional’s turn to earn three points this time around.

After finishing first in the regular season, Deportes Tolima surely expected more from their opening game with DIM. The Ibagué outfit now hopes to bounce back with a win over La Equidad.

In July this year, Tolima beat La Equidad 1-0 with a 7th-minute goal from Mejia. Whether a similar scenario is to happen this time, remains to be seen.

The matches

Nov 26

8:30pm Pereira – Junior
8:30pm Cali – América

Nov 27

8:30pm Nacional – Medellín
8:30pm Tolima – La Equidad
