Preview: Liga Postobon week 10

by Jonathan Roorda September 17, 2010

Colombian Liga Postobon leaders Santa Fe face city rivals Millonarios for the second time in a week while second-placed Deportes Tolima travel to meet with America de Cali.

Round ten of the Colombian league kicks off on Saturday with Independiente Medellin hosting Envigado at Atanasio Girardot stadium. Medellin have very good memories from their last meeting with their regional rivals, as they won 1-7 earlier this year.

Third-placed Atletico Huila host Atletico Nacional later at night, in a match that could well help secure a spot in the next round for either team. While Huila hope to put additional pressure on the top two, Nacional know that with two games in hand, they could still end up at the top of the league if they continue their current form.

Deportes Tolima, currently second on the table, play away to America de Cali. The latter are currently in 10th position and a good result in this game could take them into the top eight.

Sunday’s top clash has Santa Fe face arch rivals Millonarios for the second time in a week, and just three days after their Copa Sudamericana match with Caracas FC. Last week, with Millonarios as home team, the capital city enemies held each other to a goalless draw.

Another vital match on Sunday has fourth-placed Cucuta Deportivo host defending champions Junior. The visiting side have been doing relatively well in recent matches and a win in Cucuta could be enough to climb to eighth position, depending on results elsewhere.

Here is a full schedule of this week’s Liga Postobon matches:

Saturday, September 18
4:00 Medellin – Envigado
6:20 Huila – Nacional
8:30 America – Tolima

3:30 Cortulua – La Equidad
3:30 Boyaca Chico – Deportivo Cali
3:30 Once Caldas – Quindio
