The three high officials of the Presidency who are investigated for
allegedly having ordered intelligence service DAS to conduct illegal
wiretaps say they are “surprised” by the disciplinary investigation.
“We have recieved the requirements of the Inspector General with respect and surprise. As always we are willing and able to attend him,” a short press statement by the Press Secretary Cesar Mauricio Velasquez said.
Velasquez, together with presidential adviser Jorge Mauricio Eastman Robledo and President Alvaro Uribe’s personal secretary Bernardo Moreno, are suspected of having been informed about the results of illegal wiretaps conducted by the DAS.
The former counterintelligence director of the DAS, Jorge Alberto Lagos, said he reported back results to the Casa de Nariño.
“We believe in the Colombian institutions, we believe in justice and this government, as always wants that, with transparancy and clarity, this ordeal is clarified before the public eye,” the press statement by the Presidency said.
