Pre-Columbian cemetery discovered in Northern Bolivar

Inhabitants of Turbana, Bolivar, discovered Sunday a centuries-old cemetery underneath their houses, courtyards, and streets.

People in Turbana believe the ramains are part of a precolombian indian burial place because the bones are very fragile and they found pots, necklaces, and other indigenous ornaments next to the bones.

“We think they are more than 100 years old (…) We think those remains are indians” Yoleima Acevedo, a teacher in Turbana, said to Caracol Noticias on Sunday.

Sixteen similar findings have been reported since 1970.

“We have found beads, coffins, bones, we have found many indian handicrafts,” Humberto Castro Herrera, a community leader in Turbana, said.

According to Caracol Noticias that the number of  treasure hunters in the region has increased as they believe there are many valuable treasures underground.
