Colombia’s armed forces chief Freddy Padilla doesn’t rule out more
security officials will be dismissed over the murdered civilians scandal
that has cost three generals and 22 other officials in the north east of
Colombia their job already. The Attorney General is investigating a
total of 2,300 members of the armed forces are under investigation.
Colombian President Álvaro Uribe formed a commission to investigate possible extrajudicial executions in other parts of the country. The commission already discovered inconsistencies in the intelligence and logistics of army operations that may involve the murder of civilians.
“A military operation isn’t done spontaneously. Results are made as a consequence of a rigorous process that demand planning and monitoring before and after the operation. When these cycles aren’t met properly the ,” the highest armed forces official said.
