Pornography banned in Colombian prisons

Sex-starved Colombian inmates will be disappointed by a new State Council order banning pornography from prisons, reports El Tiempo.

The council ruled that, while each inmate has the right to choose what to read, pornography is banned due to the black market it is thought to create.

The council did not comment on whether banning it would just increase its price on the black market.

The ruling seeks to “prevent the emergence of clandestine markets in such material and reiterates the statutory prohibition applied to prison wardens against disseminating pornography.”

Also banned are explosives, narcotics, microwaves and alcoholic beverages.
