Heavy pollution in Colombia’s cities is responsible for the death of some 6 thousand of the country’s citizens, the country’s Environment Minister said on World Environment Day Saturday.
According to Minister Carlos Costa, the pollution is worst in the cities of Bogota, Medellin, Cali and Bucaramanga.
The minister stressed that the pollution does not just costs the lives of Colombians, but costs the State $764 million on a yearly basis.
Costa announced measures to regulate the allowed levels of pollution in the cities.
