Police seize a ton of cocaine in Barranquilla

Police on Wednesday announced that a ton of cocaine hidden in a Panamanian cargo ship was seized in the port of Barranquilla.

A spokesperson for the police told journalists that the drug had been found in the stern of the ship “San Judas Tadeo,” which arrived to Barraquilla from the Cartagena de Indias, where it had undergone repair.

Authorities cannot confirm in which city the drug was loaded onto the ship, which was on route to Costa Rica.

Two men who are thought to be Honduran, as well as four Colombians, have been detained by police.

The exact value of the seized cocaine is as yet unknown, but a ton of the narcotic has a street value of around $22 million. It is thought that the drug was destined for the United States.
