Police seize 2 tons marijuana, 44 kilos cocaine

Police on Tuesday seized over 2 tons of pressed marijuana and 44 kilos of cocaine in two separate operations in the western Colombia department of Valle del Cauca, El Tiempo reports.

The first operation went ahead in the village of La Zapata, in the municipality of Palmira, where authorities seized 2,072 kilograms of marijuana in 41 bags from a farm.

Colonel Nelson Aceros Rangel, commander of the local police force, said that the marijuana was wrapped in yellow, red and blue packages and was hidden in a barn.

Aceros added that on the black market, the drug is worth COP200 million.

In the second operation, 44 kilos of pure cocaine was found in a cave one meter under the ground in the rural area of Dagua.

The cocaine’s value is estimated at COP360 million.

Police last week seized over four tons of marijuana from a truck in the southern Valle del Cauca department, also in Palmira.
