Police foil ‘FARC Bogota bomb plot’

by Manuela Kuehr October 21, 2010

Colombia new - FARC, Bogota, boom

Colombian authorities said Thursday that police prevented a FARC bomb attack on capital Bogota, which was reportedly planned in revenge for the death of guerrilla commander “Mono Jojoy,” reports EFE.

El Espectador reports that the guerrillas planned to plant a car bomb in the city, similar to that which exploded outside the headquarters of Caracol Radio in August.

The guerrillas’ plan was to detonate the bomb when a motorcade of government officials was passing, according to W Radio.

The police seized four explosive devices and captured a female guerrilla known as “La Mona” who is allegedly responsible for carrying out intelligence work.

Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera and the acting director of the police, General Rafael Parra, are expected to give more details on the operation soon.

The FARC’s military commander, known as Mono Jojoy, was killed in a government air strike in September.
