Police disarm alleged FARC car bomb in Pasto

Police claim to have dismantled a car bomb planted by the FARC in the southwest Colombian city of Pasto on Tuesday.

According to the regional chief of police, a taxi loaded with 150 kilos of powerful explosives was abandoned in San Diego, a residential district to the north of the city. The explosives, which included 1.2 kilos of ammonium nitrate, would have been triggered via cell phone, the police captain said.

The force of the blast would have been powerful enough to affect between three and five city blocks, he added. Consequently, police evacuated residents from a ten-kilometer radius.

FARC has not claimed responsibility for the attempt.
