Colombian police capture nephew of jailed drug lord

Colombian police have captured the nephew of imprisoned drug lord, alias “Don Diego,” in a city in Colombia’s Coffee Region, newspaper El Espectador reported on Wednesday.

According to authorities, Rigoberto Montoya Arana, alias “Rigo”, the nephew of Diego Leon Montoya Sanchez was arrested in a police raid in Pereira, the capital of Risaralda.

Authorities said Rigo is an important leader in the drug gang “Los Machos,” the armed faction of the Norte del Valle cartel, formerly headed by Don Diego.

Thirteen other unidentified people were also arrested in the operation and are being charged. Also seized in the raid were three rifles, four revolvers, and an armored vehicle.

Don Diego pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import cocaine, racketeering, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice, in August 2009, for which he is serving time in a U.S. jail.
