Police capture 2,600 people during Holy Week holiday

Colombian Police arrested 2,592 people during the Holy Week holiday. In
most cases the captured were wanted by police or were caught committing a
crime.

The police also emphasized the capture of 20 guerrillas belonging to the FARC or ELN and 21 members of criminal or paramilitary gangs.

Some 1,300 kilos of cocaine, 21 kilos of heroin and 16,913 kilos of marijuana was seized, together with 555 firearms.

In a village in the Cesar department, Police was able to 24 grenades and 3 mortars, allegedly belonging to one of the country’s drug organizations.

Police had 147,000 policemen on the street since Thursday to make sure the approximately hundreds of thousands vehicles on Colombia’s roads would reach their holiday destinations safely and none of the country’s illegal armed groups would take advantage of the massive exodus.

So far, ten people were killed in traffic accidents throughout the country, less than half of the people that died during Easter last year.
