Philadelphia Union signs Colombian defender Gonzalez

U.S. soccer side The Philadelphia Union signed Colombian defender Juan Diego Gonzalez Alzate on Thursday, the club announced on its website.

The 30-year-old, Medellin-born central defender was acquired from Colombian side Deportivo Pereira after having played in Argentina and Mexico.

Gonzalez is “praised throughout his professional career for leadership along the back line and heading ability” the Union said.
