Peru, Colombia agree to further integrate markets

The foreign ministers of Colombia and Peru on Monday agreed to further integrate their countries’ markets with that of Chile.

One week after the president of Chile visited Colombia with the aim of strengthening ties with Colombia, Colombia’s Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin traveled to Peru with the similar idea.

In a joint statement, Holguin and her Peruvian counterpart Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde said the two countries welcome the integration of the stock exchange markets of Colombia, Peru and Chile and announced a “profound integration” of the three countries’ economies.

Peru’s President Alan Garcia recently proposed opening the borderes between his country, Colombia and Chile, which can count on the support of both Chile and Peru.

Peru and Colombia will also expend cooperation fighting the cultivation and trade of illicit drugs, the foreign ministers announced.
