Argentina’s Jose Pekerman will continue leading Colombia’s national soccer squad, national soccer federation FCF announced on Tuesday.
In a press release on its webstie, the federation announced it had been able to agree Pekerman will remain in Colombia until after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The federation was hoping to keep Pekerman after an unprecedented run that saw Colombia reach the quarter finals of the 2014 World Cup held earlier this year in Brazil.
“Following hours of dialogue, projections and analysis, the parties again stretched their hands to begin this new period,” the federation said on its website.
The FCF failed to disclose how much Pekerman will be paid.
The Argentine was initially hired in early 2012 when Colombia ranked 22 in the global FIFA rankings. The country is ranked fourth now.
