Peace runners take to the streets of Cartagena

More than 150 people from around the world took to the streets of Cartagena on Thursday to take part in the World Harmony Run, which aims to promote world peace and harmony between nations.

The ongoing event, founded by athlete and philosopher Sri Chinmoy, takes the form of a relay run in which a lit torch, symbolising harmony, integration and understanding, is carried through cities in 100 nations around the globe.

The event’s organizers have been visiting Cartagena’s schools and other official institutions throughout the week to explain the idea behind the run.

The World Harmony Run’s official website says that “the World Harmony Run does not seek to raise money or highlight any political cause, but simply strives to create goodwill among peoples of all nations.”
