Paramilitaries kill at least 40 in Nariño: authorities

At least 40 people were killed in a paramilitary raid in the north of
the Nariño department, peace adviser of the Nariño governor said
Wednesday.

“The communities reported more than 40 deaths in the last 15 days,” the peace adviser Xavier Hernandez told W Radio.

Nariño Governor Antonio Navarro Wolf will release an official report in the next hours. “The governor conducted a public policy committee and will establish an inter-institutional mission … to verify the number of victims,” Hernandez explained.

The population of the area in the north of the department has no access to fresh food or help from the authorities because of the ongoing violence, Hernandez added.

Nariño is subject to a fierce dispute over control of territories between several paramilitary groups and guerrillas of the FARC.
