Panamanian authorities would consider extraditing wanted ex-spy chief Maria del Pilar Hurtado if Colombia requested it, according to Panama`s Secretary of State.
Roberto Henriquez said, “in the eventuality that the [state department] receives a formal request from the Colombian government to act in the case of Maria del Pilar, then we will see,” Colombian media reported.
Henriquez added they had not received any such request and he could not comment on any likely outcome until they do.
Del Pilar Hurtado, who fled Colombia to seek asylum in Panama in 2010, is wanted for criminal conspiracy, abuse of public office, illegal interception of communications, embezzlement, and forging of documents and has been at the centre of the DAS wiretapping scandal.
On Tuesday, prosecutors presented the charges against her at a Supreme Court hearing.
