Orlando Duque wins 2nd round of Cliff Diving World Series

Colombian cliff diver Orlando Duque has won the second round of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in Mexico.

Duque pulled off the win with a reverse double somersault including four twists. The dive from a height of 90 feet earned him a score of 156.60, edging him in front of Britain’s Gary Hunt who took second place.

In a video interview with the UK Daily Telegraph newspaper, Duque explained that he had spent a lot of time “really working on his technique” and that this strategy appeared to be working, having a positive impact both on his performance and on the judges’ decisions.

Duque also dominated the first round of the World Series, winning the previous event on Easter Island, Chile, last month. These two victories have handed the Colombian a total of 40 points in the Series overall, his closest rival being Hunt on 29 points.

The next round of the competition, in which competitors dive from a 89.4 feet platform, will be held in Athens, Greece on 22 May.
