Orlando Duque leads 1st round of Cliff Diving World Series

Colombian cliff diver Orlando Duque came number one after the first leg of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in Rapa Nui, Easter Island, Chile.

“I am very content. The competition was really difficult, because of the tsunami we lost training time yesterday (Saturday) and today (Sunday) we had to do eight dives which is quite demanding on the body. However, we have been ready and it worked. My four dives in competition were better than I hoped and I took first place in Rapa Nui, an island really magical and that filled me with good vibes for the rest of the series,” the native of Colombia’s Valle del Cauca told El Colombiano.

The nine time world champion tops the leader board after the first round with a score of 471.90 and his closest trailer is the Russian, Artem Silchenko, with 428.80 points.

The next stop for Duque and the rest of the series is Yucatan, Mexico on April 10, 2011. The seven-city tour will hit Boston, Massachusetts in August and end in September in Yalta, Ukraine.

The Colombian native living in Hawaii suffered a diving accident in a pool in Cali in mid-February. His injuries were not serious.
