Colombia’s opposition parties want the organizers of the referendum
about president Álvaro Uribe’s re-election to clarify where they got the two billion
pesos (US$1 million) to organize the referendum from, after news broke the referendum was sponsored by one of the controversial DMG
Group’s companies.
According to opposition senator Carlos Arturo Piedrahita, the organizers of the referendum haven’t met any of the requirements of the popular vote, expect for the number of signatures. It is still unclear who paid for the campaign.
The opposition also wants to hear the presidents of both the National Registry and the Electoral council about possible inconsistencies and violations of the law that occured during the referendum.
