Oil production hits 861,000 barrels per day

Colombia’s daily petroleum production reached 861,000 barrels in February, national media reported Wednesday.

According to the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH), the largest Colombian oil company, Ecopetrol, and associates reached production levels of 771,000 barrels a day, while companies contracted by the ANH produced 90,000.

In January of this year, production was at 839,000 barrels daily.

Colombian oil production has been climbing steadily in the past year, with September 2010 production reaching the highest levels in a decade.

Ecopetrol reported a 59% increase in 2010 net earnings.
