Obama calls Uribe

by Adriaan Alsema October 13, 2009

Colombia news - Obama on the phone

U.S. President Barack Obama Monday called his Colombian counterpart to thank Alvaro Uribe for the congratulations he sent after Obama was granted the Nobel Peace Prize last week.

According to a White House press release, Obama called Uribe and the Presidents of Costa Rica and Mexico to express his gratitude and to reiterate “his commitment to continuing efforts to work in partnership to promote greater economic and social inclusion, dismantle illicit drug trafficking organizations, and confront other key challenges facing the people of the Americas today.”

Colombia and the U.S. are set to sign a pact that will allow the Americans to use at least seven Colombian military bases for their joint fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.
