OAS condemns FARC bus attack

The Organization of American States (OAS) on Sunday condemned the rebel attack on a bus that killed six, including two children in the southern Colombian Nariño department.

“The acts perpetrated constitute a serious violation of the treaties of international humanitarian law and an act of unjustified violence against innocent people,,” OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza said in a statement.

According to Insulza, these acts against civilians “do not contribute to finding ways that allow to resolve the difficulties of public order of the region and the country and undermine people’s basic rights.”

“The OAS condemns such actions and calls them to cease in all regions of the country,” the OAS Secretary concluded.

The attack on an intercity bus between Cali and the bordertown of Ipiales happened in a region where both army, FARC and right-wing militias are in constant combat.
