Monday authorities notified that 1,400 families from villages in the south had been forced to leave their homes after the San Jorge river flooded.
Victims found refuge in improvised camps on higher grounds or found shelter at friends or family, Caracol Radio reported Tuesday.
People affected by the emergency requested food and blankets and demand authorities start and finish the construction of containment walls to prevent floods from happening.
Local authorities fear that ongoing rainfall in the region can cause the rivers to rise and flood more land.
