An earthquake of 5.0 on the scale of Richter occurred in the north of Colombia, near the border with Venezuela, on Wednesday.
The tremor took place at 12:16pm local time, in the department Norte de Santander, and reportedly occurred at a depth of about 161 kilometers. Two aftershocks were experienced in Cúcuta.
Authorities are currently investigating the magnitude of the quake, and whether personal or material damage is to be reported.
Earthquakes are rather common in Colombia. On May 24th, a 5.6 tremor killed six near the country’s capital, Bogotá.
