No pay for striking Colombian judicial workers

Striking judicial workers wages were suspended Wednesday, as the
eight-day nationwide walkout of an estimated 40,000 workers prompted
the appointment of 22 provisional judges to handle emergency business.

The “service of justice is essential,” declared Bogotá’s Superior
Tribunal, as it declared the strike illegal, the final move in a
three-point plan of the disciplinary chamber of the Superior Council to
end the walkout, reported RCN Radio.

The provisional judges will be distributed across five of Colombia’s largest cities, with 5 each in Bogotá and Barranquilla, and 4 in Cartagena, Tunja and Bucaramanga, according to El Tiempo.

The judicial workers are striking for higher wages.
