No evidence that Uribe ordered wiretapping: DAS

The Prosecution has no evidence that anyone within the Presidencyordered the illegal wiretapping Colombia’s intelligence agency is being investigated for, DAS director Felipe said on Tuesday. Prosecutor General Mario Iguarán said he never spoke out about the subject.

According to Muñoz, Iguarán had told Court Magistrates and President Álvaro Uribe about the lack of evidence the illegal wiretapping was known within the Casa de Nariño and had elaborated about some of the details of the investigation in a meeting with the President and the high court presidents Monday.

Iguaran denies this.  According to newspaper El Tiempo, he assures he remained “totally silent” about the subject during the meeting.

The Prosecutor General is leading the investigation of the DAS’ alleged illegal wiretapping of Supreme Court magistrates, journalists and opposition politicians.
