No contradiction in ‘Yidispolitica’ case: Inspector General

There’s no contradiction in convicting former congressmen for receiving
bribes, and not investigating the government officials who are accused of
having offered the bribes, Colombia’s Inspector General says.

In an interview with newspaper El Tiempo, Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez explains there is not enough evidence to continue a disciplinary investigation against current Social Welfare Minister Diego Palacio and current ambassador to Rome Sabas Pretelt de la Vega for having bribed former congressmen Yidis Medina and Teodolindo Avendaño.

However, the conviction of the two former congressmen is just, because their guilt is proven, the Inspector General claims.

According to the Inspector General, it is not proven it were the two mentioned government officials who offered the bribe, despite the testimony of one of the recipient of the bribe, Yidis Medina, saying so.

It is the imagination of some journalists who believe the Inspector General has a political agenda that Ordoñez only acquitted members of the government, he said.
