Nine members of Colombia’s armed forces have been killed since Saturday while fighting the country’s largest rebel group FARC. One soldier remains missing.
On Tuesday, at least four members of the military were killed in the eastern department of Guaviare. Initially, one lieutenant and five soldiers were missing, but except for one soldier, all have been located, Armed Forces commander Freddy Padilla announced Tuesday afternoon.
Three policemen were killed in the northern department of Bolívar Tuesday and another seven were injured when the FARC attacked the town of Buena Vista, authorities said.
Earlier, three of their colleagues were killed when guerrillas carried out a similar attack on the town Saturday.
The FARC is allegedly carrying out a ‘Black March’ offensive to commemorate the death of its founder Manuel Marulanda on March 26 last year.
