Brazil’s Votorantim and Colombia’s Acesco are planning to build a new
steel plant in Colombia with an investment of US$1.5 billion.
The two companies say production at the plant in Barranquilla will be 1.4 million metric tons of steel per year.
Votorantim Siderurgia and Acerias de Colombia SA said Wednesday that
that studies on the plant should be finished in nine months.
Production at the plant would start in 2012 and half of the steel produced would be destined for Colombia’s domestic market.
