New president of the Superior Judicial Council elected

Angelino Lizcano has been elected as the new president of Colombia’s Superior Judicial Council, replacing Judge Francisco Escobar.

Lizcano, a lawyer from Caqueta, studied at the Free University and was also manager of the Caqueta Liquor Enterprise.

The new president, who is now a member of Cambio Radical despite previously being part of the Liberal Party, will have to deal with reforms that propose to scrap the council to which he has just been appointed.

The plan, put forward by President Santos, proposes replacing the Superior Judicial Council with a new council presided over by the presidents of Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court and the State Council.
